1 Corinthians 9

22To the weak (wanting in discernment) I have become weak (wanting in discernment) that I might win the weak and overscrupulous. I have [in short] become all things to all men, that I might by all means (at all costs and in any and every way) save some [by winning them to faith in Jesus Christ].

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  1. Step1

Preparation: If you know that you are about to reach out to someone, spend some time in prayer. Pray for strength. This is no easy task, but it is what all have been called to do.

Matthew 28:19: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

  2. Step2

Recognize your sin: The first step to salvation is recognizing that there is sin in your life. The following verses identify that there is sin in the lives of all men and women.

    Romans 3:23
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

    Romans 3:10
There is no one righteous, not even one.

  3. Step3

Penalty for Sin: Based on the following verse, explain that the death is not a worldly death, but it is an eternal death; separation from God for eternity.

    Romans 6:23a
The wages of sin is death.

  4. Step4

God’s Gift: God’s gift to man is salvation, eternal life, through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s son. We are not deserving of this gift because we are sinners, but God gave us this gift because of his love for us.

    Romans 6:23b
The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Romans 5:8
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

  5. Step5

Become part of the family of God: These verses identify the need to take action in order to find salvation.

    Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heartthat God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

    Romans 10:13
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  6. Step6

No Condemnation: Once you have prayed to accept Jesus Christ, you no longer have any condemnation. That means that you will not be punished for your sins because you have received forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

    Romans 5:1
We have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

  7. Step7

The Question: Once you have talked through all the verses, ask they would like accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior? If at this point they say yes move on to the next step.

If they say no, they may not be ready. Ask if you can contact them at another time to talk about it. Encourage them to get a Bible or read online and take a look at more of Romans or the Gospels. Make sure you follow up if they will allow it.

  8. Step8

The Prayer: Only faith in Jesus Christ can provide salvation! Have the person accepting Jesus pray to Him. Make sure they follow the following points. If they want to pray for other things as well that is OK. There is not a specific prayer that is required as long as they acknowledge the following.

    • Recognize your sin.
    • Recognize that you are deserving of punishment.
    • Recognize that Jesus Christ took that punishment upon himself and provides forgiveness for your sins.
    • Offer your life to God.
    • Ask forgiveness for your sins.
    • Thank God for his gift of grace and forgiveness, for eternal life.

Once they have finished praying, ask for a phone number. Follow up with them to make sure they find a doctrinally sound church body. Also, make sure they get a Bible. There are plenty of resources for people to get them for free or you can give them one as a gift.

Psalm 1

happy, desire, delight, purpose, instruction, God's promises, righteous

New International Version

1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Amplified Bible (AMP)

1[a]BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

2But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.(A)

3And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].(B)

4Not so the wicked [those disobedient and living without God are not so]. But they are like the chaff [worthless, dead, without substance] which the wind drives away.

5Therefore the wicked [those disobedient and living without God] shall not stand [justified] in the judgment, nor [b]sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God].

6For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God's will] shall perish (end in ruin and come to nought).
